Advanced Laser Eye Surgery and Vision Correction Technology - Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Over the years, laser eye surgery and vision correction technology have significantly evolved, enhancing the quality of the post-operative results and patient safety. We offer the most advanced laser eye surgery and vision correction technology at The Eye Institute in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

VISX STAR S4™

VISX, Incorporated is recognized worldwide for bringing innovation and breakthrough technology to laser vision correction. VISX is the only FDA-approved laser able to provide Wavefront-guided treatment for farsighted or mixed astigmatism prescriptions. VISX also has the only FDA-approved automated Iris Registration. All of Dr. Koenig’s laser eye surgery procedures are performed with the Excimer laser, a computerized cold laser that uses ultraviolet light. Coupled with the VISX STAR S4™ software, the Excimer laser represents the most up-to-date technology proven successful for LASIK surgery.

Variable Spot Scanning (VSS)

Variable (instead of fixed) beam sizes from as small as 0.65 mm up to 6.5 mm are scanned over the treatment area. This removes less tissue, faster. This is not only safer, but also conserves tissue and optimizes treatment times.

Variable Repetition Rate (VRR)

VRR delivers treatment at varying repetition rates, optimizing treatment time.

ActiveTrak® 3-D Active Eye

The most advanced laser on the market today, the STAR S4's active eye-tracking system captures all three dimensions of intra-operative eye movement, automatically compensating for each eye movement. Securing eye alignment allows for a more precise procedure and optimal results.

ActiveTrak® Automatic

Locates, and then automatically sets the treatment center to the center of the pupil. No dilation is required. Even if the pupil changes size during the procedure, the calculated pupil center will not change.

The VISX STAR S4™ Excimer Laser System produces an extremely smooth treatment surface on the cornea. Smoother treatments promote faster healing and result in better visual outcomes.

The VISX CustomVue™ procedure now provides the broadest range of U.S. FDA-approved Wavefront-guided laser vision correction treatments. Offered at our Milwaukee practice, the VISX CustomVue™ procedure can treat conditions including myopia with and without astigmatism, hyperopia with and without astigmatism, and mixed astigmatism. As shown in FDA clinical studies, the CustomVue™ procedure may improve vision beyond the correction possible with contact lenses or glasses.

WaveScan® technology produces a WavePrint® Map, much like a fingerprint, unique to your eye. This detailed map contains a detailed analysis of your vision, and no two maps are alike. The WaveScan's® digital information is transferred to the VISX STAR S4™ Excimer Laser, allowing Dr. Koenig to reshape the cornea with a new level of precision and accuracy. This technology provides you with the potential to experience better vision than is possible with glasses or contact lenses – your PERSONAL BEST VISION™.

VISX STAR S4 IR™

VISX has the only FDA-approved Iris Registration Technology, for precision tracking, ensuring your treatment is properly aligned for best results.

Patients are sitting upright while their measurements are taken. During the procedure, however, patients are lying down. This change in position can sometimes cause the eyes to rotate slightly, which can move the eyes out of alignment. Iris Registration records prominent iris landmarks at the time CustomVue™ photos are taken. During surgery, it automatically rotates your treatment on the VISX® laser to align the landmarks. Iris Registration provides more individualized adjustments that improve the quality of laser vision correction.

IntraLase®

The IntraLase Method™ is the first blade-free laser technology for performing the critical first step of the LASIK procedure: creating the flap. Unlike the microkeratome blade, which cuts across the cornea to create the flap, The IntraLase Method™ creates the flap from below the surface of the cornea. The IntraLase FS60™ Laser uses an infrared beam of light to precisely position tiny microscopic bubbles within the central layer of the cornea to define the flap’s dimensions and distinct beveled edge, as well as the location of the hinge. Thousands of these bubbles are then stacked along the edge of the flap to the corneal surface to complete the flap. Dr. Koenig then lifts the flap to allow for treatment by the VISX STAR S4™ Excimer Laser. When the treatment is complete, the flap is repositioned, a process made more accurate by the distinct beveled edge. This computer-guided technology provides for the highest-precision surgical control.
