Dr. Steven B. Koenig, head of cornea and refractive surgery, has been a faculty member at the Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin Eye Institute for over 30 years. Dr. Koenig has been performing LASIK surgery since 1996 and has successfully helped thousands of patients correct their vision. His practice includes cataract, corneal and refractive surgery (LASIK) with a strong emphasis on laser vision correction, one-stitch corneal transplantation (DSAEK and DMEK) and no-stitch cataract surgery.
After graduating summa cum laude from Dartmouth College, Dr. Koenig attended medical school at Cornell University Medical College. He completed his ophthalmology residency at Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago and did a two-year fellowship in cornea/refractive surgery at LSU Eye Center. He joined the faculty of the Eye Institute in 1983.
Dr. Koenig is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, has received the Honor Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology and was elected to the Cornea Society, a distinguished professional society of corneal surgeons. He has been at the forefront of new corneal transplantation techniques such as DSAEK and DMEK and has written extensively in this area, with more than 100 articles published in the scientific literature. With fellowship training and over three decades of surgical experience, Dr. Koenig possesses the medical expertise to help you achieve your best vision.
Dr. Koenig has participated in the training of a number of ophthalmologists and corneal surgeons and has been repeatedly selected by his peers as one of the “Best Doctors in America” and “Best Doctors in Milwaukee.”
